Tips You Must Learn In Fashion Design School

By Muritala Adisa

It is merging universe out there and fashion is no exception. Inventions, modification, observation and innovation in today's technological world has not only turned this world in to a global village. Creativity and artistry combined with this technological development has token fashion and design to an unimaginable level.

However, researchers in the field of fashion and deign have become increasingly worried and specifically concerned about the direction o their discipline. Their concern is not only with growing debates about the challenges of rigour and relevance as regards fashion and designing today, but about conflict and incommensurability across multiple paradigms.

The emergence of the new millennium as if to announce her arrival opened another page in fashion trend. Year 2007 specifically brought us the latest bleeding chic wrapped in a freshness that relies on revivalist interpretation and an appreciation for Pythagorean precision. Pretty runway bundles, prepackaged and ready-made to be dissected and disseminated in fashion institution all over the globe. Academic writers took a critical view of fashion designers seeing them as spurious in their claims a trivial in the effect. That notwithstanding fashion is indisputably and increasingly seen as having important consequences for changes in our world today with T-Shirt as canvas, eco-friendly design sewing together the cutting edge of fashion and activism, retro-revival cadences injected .into deconstructionists aesthetic, the Japan street scene getting crazy and blurring the lines between graphic designs, science fiction and vintage shopping. This is surely the decade libido lid flies completely off the fashion pot.

The most interesting factor to note is the combination and diffusion of various fashion trends and its extension beyond geo-graphical boundaries respectively. Talk of the tend in vogue; it is no more focused as the spread is served from futurism to old-world romance. Sport wear with high heeled sneakers, hoodies and track pants all gracing the runway. Shoes now go longer, skirts are modernly shaped to be more chic, and plunge has leveled while handbags come in their vanity form. From the over-sized adorable ones to the shrinking size, from animal print handbags, tendi straw and sneakers frame once to sophisticate craftily designed grab bags.

Single strap or double strap, the variety seems endless. In today's world, we see from ankles to knees and nudes. It is really amazing that flowers grow not only on earth anymore but in the minds of sophisticated designers like Yves Saint Laurent Kenneth Cole and many more. Who see it as an ingredient to consolidate their creative effort.Fashion has ensured that the world become more closely kit together, creating modern means of celebrating and promoting various culture. Although, handmade craftsmanship still reigns supreme, technology is however competing seriously for its phase in the industry.

Celebrities and Their Influence on Fashion and Shoe Trends

By Glena Jess

In our society celebrities are enormously glorified as fashion divas and style icons by fashion magazines and tabloids. Fashion journalists and photographers go overboard in covering fashion trends that celebs are either following or setting, and not just on the red carpet but even when they're grocery shopping. In a way they project to people what trends they should be following while dressing up for an occasion and also in a subtle manner dictate to them how they can get a chic look when going out in the town. Youngsters and teenagers in particular come under the strong influence of the media projection of their favourite celebrity and start emulating them. This is how trends become fashions.

Celebrity shoe fashion

While accessories have always been there to add more zing to you semblance, these play a more significant role in the current fashion trends. Earlier accessories were merely used to dress up an outfit but nowadays it seems people choose their accessories first and then find a dress to match them. All credit for the change in perception can be awarded to the media that spends reams of paper in discussing the shoes, bags and jewelery worn by the celebs. Fashionable celebrities in their bid to become the talk of the press do not mind choosing the most jarring shoes as they are well aware their shoes will be noticed. In a way, celebrities make use of outrageous high heel shoes to help them to be noticed and remain in the buzz.

Shoe crazy celebs

Excessive media hype over bold, outrageous and seductive shoes has created a cult of celebrities known for their fetishes for high heels and extraordinary shoes. Some of the most shoe-worthy celebs reputed for their extreme craze for high heel shoes are -

-Victoria Beckham - Posh Spice, as she is better known, feels she is addicted to high heel shoes. "I just can't concentrate in flats" the Spice Girl said in an interview recently. Victoria is always in the news for her bold and innovative skyscraper heels designed by high profile shoe designers of the likes of Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, and Jimmy Choo.

-Beyoncé - "I love those super-high shoes that are out at the moment. I'm addicted," the sensational singer and actress once exclaimed. Her high heel stiletto shoes and platform high heel shoes have created quite a stir in the shoe fashion world.

-Sarah Jessica Parker - Her shoe loving character Carrie Bradshaw in the TV series Sex and the City made Manolo Blahnik a household name. A fashionista with considerable influence in the fashion world, SJP herself is an active ambassador of designer high heel shoes. "My name is Sarah Jessica, and I own well over 100 pairs of Manolo Blahniks," she once claimed.

-Rihanna - The singer is known for wearing some very brave shoes. They are often the most expressive part of her ensemble that consists of designer outfits and expensive jewellery. The fashion icon is often seen wearing some of the kinkiest high heel shoes reaching up to her knees and thighs at times.

-Lady Gaga - This multi-talented burlesque singer makes sure her social antics are discussed in press by wearing risqué shoes. Her seductive thigh high shoes accompanied by a pant-less attire, seductive high heel stilettos, PVC knee-length boots etc ensure that the Lady creates quite a sensation wherever she goes.

-Paris Hilton - Socialite and fashion icon Paris Hilton is known to possess thousands of pairs of designer shoes. Her favourite shoe style is pointed stilettos, high heel pumps, knee high shoes, open-toe pumps and high heel platforms. Wildly passionate about shoes, Paris also runs a successful footwear line in her own name.

Should we follow celebrity shoe fashion?

The fickle world of fashion is all about following trends. Teens and 20-somethings are especially seen desperate to follow trends started by their favourite celebrity. In most cases however, non-celebs can't afford the designer shoes that celebrities so often flaunt, so they have to opt for cheaper imitations of the shoes that adorn the A-list celebrities of the likes of Madonna and Victoria Beckham.

According to style experts, it makes people feel proud that they are in the shoes (in terms of design of course) of their fashion idols. The strong desire to mirror celebrities at times makes youngsters copy even the most bizarre shoe styles sported by the them. Stylists warn people against following celebrity shoe designs blindly because rather than looking fashionable, young girls often end-up being ridiculed by their peers. Before selecting shoes always make sure they are practical, gels with you mood and attitude and you should be able to carry them effortlessly. If you wear excessively high heels so that you can not even walk a few steps un-aided you definitely need to reconsider your choice. Also you should not go about harming your feet just because your fave celebs always wear vertiginous high heel shoes. According to podiatrists, very high heel shoes should be reserved for special occasions and should not be worn for hours at a stretch.

How to follow celebrity fashion at less?

Well, like Carrie Bradshaw of the SATC you should not always max out your credit card to buy designer shoes. Many Online Shoes Sites offer you the option to buy sexy shoes similar to ones that adorn the feet of celebs at a highly affordable price. There classy and glamorous shoes are highly popular as they inexpensive and superlative in quality. Shop from there extensive collection of high heel shoes and they will deliver it right at your doorsteps in a safe and discreet packaging.

Handbags, Fashion and Spotting a Fake LV

By Anne Clarke

Louis Vuitton handbags and luggage are known around the world as representing the height of hand workmanship, design and status. To this day Louis Vuitton products are all handmade and tightly controlled to prevent counterfeit products. Even if you purchase this brand from a department store, it was sold by a highly trained Vuitton employee.

The story of how the original Louis became a world-renowned brand and status symbol is a rags-to-riches story that began in the late 19th Century. In 1835 at the age of 14, before he knew anything about making luggage, he walked 249 miles to make a new life in Paris. In 1854 he opened his first Parisian boutique stocked with his flat-top trunks (other trunks of the time had rounded tops and were not stackable), hat boxes and other travel luxuries for the wealthy. In 1892, Louis Vuitton died and left the business to his son George, who wasted no time in making the name a global brand name.

The now-famous monogram was originally created to prevent counterfeiting and is considered the first modern design "label." Ironically, this brand of handbags and luggage fashions are the most counterfeited items today. The company goes to great lengths to mitigate industrial espionage - mostly by keeping a tight control on products around the world.

These methods include a team of attorneys and investigators who attempt to suss out and stop known counterfeiters. The company only sells product in an authorized boutique or online at their own Web site or from eluxury. Any other site or merchant claiming to sell authentic LV product is being dishonest and probably breaking some laws.

Auction sites (such as eBay) dealing with individual sellers may or may not have the authentic merchandise they claim to have. Spotting a fake LV is easily done in person if you know what you're looking for. Spotting an online fake is slightly more difficult but there are entire Web sites devoted to pointing out the subtle yet glaring attempts to make and sell 'exact' copies that claim authenticity.

Sites with authentic and fake photos side-by-side do the best job of illustrating these differences. One of the biggest giveaways are off-centered LV's. Authentic LV's are always centered and not tilted to one side or another. Also, if the LV's are upright on both sides of the item, it may be a fake. When dealing with an individual Internet seller request more photos to ensure they aren't using stolen photos of the product from the main site.

Any site or seller offering any product for considerably less than retail is probably not for real. Another dead giveaway is the dust bag. If the dust bag is included, an authentic dust bag will have no rounded corners and will be made of quality material. Basically if you are considering dropping $1,000 on an authentic LV fashion handbag, buy direct from the company to ensure your money doesn't go to waste!

Milan - The Design Capital of the World

By Diana Roig

Milan is the capital of the Lombardy Region, besides being the home of international fashion and design. It is also an important financial and commercial centre. This is a dynamic and cosmopolitan city, full of elegant and distinct corners.

In addition, it enjoys a rich heritage that will take us thousands of years back in time because of its old monuments (such as Il Duomo's cathedral) and its beautiful art works (such as the famous painting "The Last Supper" by Leonardo Da Vinci, displayed in the Santa Maria delle Grazie church).

As Milan is the design capital of the world, the main streets of the city (Vía Manzini, Montenapoleone, Vía della Spiga and Vía Sant Andrea) are the ones that house all the major brand fashion stores: Dolce&Gabbana, Armani, Gucci, Versace, Devota&Lomba, Dior... There are also many outlets which sell past seasons clothes at economical prices and many popular stores as H & M, Footlooker, Zara, etc.

Milan holds one of the most prestigious design teaching centres of Europe: the "Istituto Europeo di Design". Thousands of young artists study there in the hope of becoming a great designer. Every spring and every autumn the 'Fashion in Milan' show is celebrated. Some famous designers present their new collections here.

But the city not only stands out for being the home of fashion but for its fascinating works of art and monuments. Formerly Milan was governed by the Visconti and the Sforza families. They were patrons of some artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci or Bramante. The famous Sforzesco Castle was the Sforza family residence. Nowadays, it houses a museum which shows Michelangelo's works of art.

Il Duomo cathedral is the most important tourist attraction in Milan and a very emblematic building. It is a vast Gothic cathedral crowned with 135 pinnacles and adorned with over 2,000 different statues. Inside it has 2,000 more statues spread over 5 floors. Its highest tower holds the golden Madonina, the patron saint of the city. Il Duomo is one of the world's largest cathedrals.

But Milan is also known as the home of the Escala theatre: it is the largest Opera in the world. There Verdi, Rossini or Puccini's works are played. In addition, it has two of its own philharmonic orchestras.

Another major tourist attraction as was pointed out before is the fresco by Leonardo Da Vinci, "The Last Supper", located in the Santa Maria delle Grazie's church (to visit it is necessary to book several months in advance). The church is of Renaissance style and it was built by Bramante.

Finally, the Pazzo di Brera is another essential element of Milan's "geography": it is an art gallery, library, Astronomical Observatory and Fine Arts Academy.

Fashion - Back to the Future

By Michelle Grace Tapire

What style are you most comfortable wearing? Do you know where the fashion you feel most comfortable wearing came from? The world of fashion and design is truly compelling with the intrigue and excitement it provides people like you who are among those who enjoy displaying different trends in fashion. The fads that are all in the present all came from the past designs that started way back the 19th century. Knowing this will give you the idea on the real personality that you have been dreaming to display in your fashion as well as the ones who made a mark in the mod world that most men and women are getting.

From long ago, even if men are also integrated with the same fashion sense provided by the many designers; women are more of the target in the fashion designing. In the earliest years of mod designing, the name that started it all goes back to Charles Frederick Worth (1826-1895). His success started the vintage fashion even before the maison couture in Paris started. Worth was more than just a tailor; he was the very first man who had ever dictated what his customers must wear! Could you just imagine how great an achievement it was to be the dictator of fashion at that time?

You can trace back up to this time the trend of drawing fashion on a paper among designers to picture the right fall of fabric on their design as well as the form and pattern the design is meant to have, who would have guessed that this practice goes a long way back? Many fashion houses hired the services of painters and artists to make the design presentation for customers to view than actually having to make a completed form, which evolved to the publications of the magazines.

The fashion world turned to French fashion in the early 1900, This was the time of the hour glass shape for women that started in the vintage fashion they displayed; the corset that some women are still wearing up to the present became very famous to show the S-bend silhouette. You can just imagine how women have been so vain in their waistline already. The flimsy lines came after the 1908, gone are the bulky petty coats underneath the garments. The pleating and dyeing process came to be reflected in the clothing until the World War I where women were dressing for comfort and not for fashion, women learned to work and became practical at these times.

Skirts were introduced in 1915 in the ankle length until it became shorter up to the mid-calf. The vintage fashion started having the short skirts together with the introduction of the automobiles. Many changes happened, carriages to cars; long-train gowns to pinafores above the knees; skirts to short bobs until women even started borrowing their clothing from men's fashion. The A-line skirts did not take so long to be patronized since many fashion designs were introduced really fast in the market. Some of the hairstyle and fashion of that time changed with the time and some very famous designers of the present time came from this era of vintage clothing designing like Jean Patou and Coco Chanel as well as many others.

The sudden change in the women's fashion again came in the 40s, many vintage fashion houses closed. After the war, new fashion came with a complete new look, the designers from the early years like Chanel disliked the new look, it was the end of women following the Paris fashion.

The 60s was slowly introducing the retro fashion; simplicity has reached the extreme almost deleting the glamorous style of fashion from the 1900s until the radical expression of clothing matched with music and lifestyle; glam rock and punk are among the examples.

What you wear now are still reflections of the past fashion worlds that came. The inspiration in the art of fashion is found in the retro fashion of the 60s to the 80s. The scarves, the pant cuts and even the skirts are all from different patches of the fashion world's past. Look back and there will always be a fashion you can emulate in your personal style. It really is a fashion world out there!

Fashion and the Economy

By Paris Ward

Do the rise and fall of the economy and the hemline coincide with each other? In this time of a declining economy some would say that the fall of the economy and the rise of the hemline are connected. Some experts surmise that the connection is for the purpose of saving fabric costs, or that shorter skirts bring cheerful attitudes to an otherwise dismal economy both to the wearer and to the observer - Is the theory true?

Then there are others that would have you decide whether there is any truth to the legend called the "hemline theory," which states that as hemlines fall, so goes the economy and as hemlines rise so rise the stocks? This theory is seen in the economic decline of the 1930s and 1940s with the longer hemlines, while the 1920s and 1960s short skirted fashion trend witnessed economic prosperity. So, as in the age old argument of the chicken and the egg - which comes first - the rise or fall in "fashion" or "funds."

An investment trust company, The Taubman Centers Inc. in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan conducted a survey in 2004 to measure the validity of the hemline theories. At the conclusion of the survey they published the results and stated that the hemline indicator was a "quirky -- yet historically accurate -- forecasting tool." And further concluded that the "ankle duster" linked to uncertain times, and "cheesecake" linked to financial stability ahead.

Then there are those that do not buy into these theories as stated in the following interview. "I've always heard that hemlines go up during tougher economic times. Do I think it's true? I see no correlation," said Janine Blain, a contemporary market analyst at The Doneger Group's Los Angeles office "It's maybe something from the past."

It is a well-known fact that the fashion industry starts designing their clothing lines for an upcoming season as much as eight months ahead of time with the mindset that they need to create their designs for the consumer. With a fast changing economy the ability to predict a rise or fall, and base an entire fashion trend on that prediction, would be a risky business. That the economy was in relatively good shape when this present spring design line was being created might challenge these theories.

This season's female shoppers want their fashions to be as versatile as their lifestyles. They want to outfit their wardrobe for play - with the sexier cocktail dress - or for work - with the pencil skirt and a colorful tucked in blouse. In fact, the clothes for the season are fun and flirty short hemlines with bold and daring color pallets - bringing a sense of cheer to an ever declining economic future.

Do the shorter hemlines this season predict a rise in the economic slump that has plagued us - or do we let them make us smile and cheer us up because they are predicting more difficult economic times ahead? You decide whether the theories are based on fact or fashion.

Where to Start Out on Your Career in Fashion Design

By Thomas Cohen

It seems that these days just about everyone is considering a career in fashion design. The truth of the matter, is that not everyone will achieve their lofty dreams of a successful carer in fashion. The reason for this is that there are just not enough positions to accommodate everyone that is looking for work in fashion design, so it is the best prepared that will prevail.

One thing that many people don't realize is that a good fashion designer must have true vision, because they have to think a year or so ahead of everyone else. What this means is that this years fashion line is actually last years ideas. It takes at least a year to create a line and bring it online in full commercial production, so your ideas have to be right on the mark.

Learning to draw fashion creations and ideas is the first step to learning to create actual product. If you try to skip the drawing process what you will be left holding in your hands when you have completed a creation is inevitably complete junk. You may love it, because it is your creation but no one else will.

Remember that other people liking your design ideas is key to achieving success in the field of fashion design. So learn to draw fashion designs and become good at it. Drawing is the way the people communicate in the fashion design business and without great drawing skills you will be left in a weak position.

Of course, another subject that you will need to master is the subject of fabrics. You must have a thorough knowledge of all fabrics, their makeup and their texture. So, it seems that there is lot that a person can learn and study before they actually consider formal training in fashion design.

Plan and Design a Bathroom on Your Own

By Willhelm Williams

When you look at your current bathroom and begin to design a bathroom you will realize that it is a little bit different than doing a complete remodel, although you may find that there are similar elements of a remodel in your final design. To completely attain the bathroom design that you are going for, you may have to participate in a little demolition first. In some cases, the design can never be realized if some of the structures aren't torn up in order to be rebuilt in the way that you wish. Many bathrooms in older homes and in tract housing weren't designed for style, but were planned and built in order to save time, money and space. While you may not be able to knock out a wall in order to expand a bathroom, you may find that you are able to consolidate some space with your choices of fixtures.

The pedestal sink design is very much in fashion again and this is a great opportunity to free up some floor space in order to do something such as adding a linen cupboard or to install a fancy whirlpool tub. These changes and all others begin with a good, solid design. If you are not a professional and you are hoping to create the entire design yourself and your design includes major structural changes, it is best if you consult someone who can tell you if your ideas are even feasible. Unfortunately, rearranging the structures and fixtures of a bathroom are very different than rearranging your living room furniture. No matter how much you may want that extra large bathtub with the Jacuzzi jets, you may not be able to have it if the structure of the room simply cannot handle that change.

Another option is to hire a design firm or an architect to come in and listen to your ideas, your likes and dislikes and have them come up with a design that meets with your approval. While this is a much more expensive route, you will be assured that the design is attainable and that all of the major changes will meet with all of the structural standards and that the job will be completed in an appropriate and legal manner. Because these professionals are so familiar with the field of design and remodeling, they may have quite a lot of ideas of their own that you may never have thought of. You could definitely get your money's worth when using a designer. Their job is to be full of inspiration and they, very definitely, will have many ideas on how to design a bathroom.

From Fashion Design School to Celebrity Collaborations

By Ysolt Usigan

Fashion design school helped Carrie Cochran say RICKY MARTIN wore my T-shirt. Well, not her personal shirt -- Carrie actually custom-designed T-shirts for the popstar to wear throughout his world tour in 2005. That was a proud moment for the thriving fashion designer.

Carrie has dreamed of a fashion design career for a long time. "I've always had a talent with creativity and art," she explains. "When I was a teen, I would sew and design my own clothes and costumes. Sewing and fashion was my hobby, and I spent all my free time doing it."

Carrie was a natural, so she steadfastly headed to a fashion design school to cultivate her craft. She attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where she eventually graduated with honors. "The fashion design school was close to home and I easily attended while still living at home with my parents," she recalls. "After visiting the fashion design school, a guided tour with a counselor nailed my decision down." Excited by what the fashion design college had to offer in terms of classes, an annual fashion show that students participated in, and educational trips to New York and Paris, Carrie knew she wouldn't regret choosing fashion design college.

"I'm very proud to have graduated with honors from a fashion design school," she explains. "I was able to work consistently in a fashion design career since then to support myself using my skills. All my hard work really paid off when I received a phone call from tennis legend SERENA WILLIAMS, who was asking me to be a part of her fashion company, Aneres."

It's all a matter of who you know and how you get your name, work, and garments out there, according to Carrie. Doors to other opportunities have opened up with every one of her pieces that gets worn. "I was introduced to Ricky Martin about a year ago through a friend. He had seen my work and fell in love with it," she says. "He wore one of my accessories to last year's Video Music Awards on MTV."

As a result, Carrie created an entire collection of accessories, as well as custom T-shirts for the Latin singer which he sported throughout his world tour last year.

So now that Carrie has her dream fashion design career realized, what's next? Fashion design college yet again to get her masters perhaps? Maybe even more celebrity collaborations? The sky is the limit once an aspiring fashion designer has experience and a degree to back up his or her credentials. For Carrie, the next step may be a fashion design business.
